The Challenge

Mymoena and her Less-abled Twins Need Support

  • Fees for special needs schooling are unaffordable for anyone in the Cape Flats community
  • Mounting debt and lack of employment is preventing Mymoena from providing for her family
  • She battles to put food on the table without a steady income

Mymoena has twin daughters, Fatima and Fouzia, who have Down Syndrome and require special needs schooling. The fees are high, and Mymoena is left without a choice but to keep them at home until she can afford to have them enrolled. She bakes and sells muffins to pay for rent, food, and other basic necessities. Even this is becoming an increasing challenge for her as her arthritis is preventing her from making large enough batches of muffins to sell, and without the mixer and cooking utensils she needs, this is an impossible task. Her mounting debt weighs heavily on her as she painstakingly tries to make ends meet.

Campaign Activities

Fundraising to Help Mymoena and Her Twins

  • Raised awareness online of Mymoena and her twin girls’ plight
  • Campaign was marketed and promoted via social media channels
  • A video of Mymoena’s life prompted donations from far and wide

The appeal to raise funds ran over a 2-week period. Mymoena’s plight and request for help was promoted through various social media channels. Voice of the Cape, a local radio station, shared Mymoena’s story which allowed the message to reach an even broader audience.

Results

A Positive Outcome in Sight for Mymoena, Fatima and Fouzia

  • An anonymous donor covered the entire cost of the twins’ special needs schooling
  • A cake mixer was bought to help relieve Mymoena’s arthritic pain when baking muffins to sell
  • The donated funds were able to relieve Mymoena’s debt

The fundraising campaign was a success and brought about significant help and positive change to Mymoena and her twin girls’ lives. A generous donor has offered to cover the entire cost of schooling for Fatima and Fouzia, and Mymoena will now receive much needed grocery vouchers for a full year, if and when she needs it. The funds also covered the cost of a new cake mixer for Mymoena, which means that she can now bake and sell larger batches of muffins with less physical toll on her health.

Your donations helped give hope to this deserving family in need. Shukran for everything!
